Although it was originally known as the Pleasanton Hotel when it was built in 1863, the hotel that stood on the site of the current day Round Table Pizza parking lot changed its name to the Rose Hotel in 1881, when it was bought by Jason Rose. Many famous people stayed in the Old Rose Hotel, including several famous presidents, businessman Henry Ford, comedians Abbot and Costello, and the famous racehorse Sea Biscuit, who raced at the famous racetrack nearby. The Rose Hotel was razed in the 1950’s.
